"Orb...?" Machaeus picks up the purple, shadowy sphere and gazes at it. "The Orb of Djinn. It's an old genie artifact that polymorphs anyone who comes within 5 unless they can cast spells. Those who can use magic gain the ability to morph their own form to whatever they wish. For instance." A black wave of energy passes over Machaeus' body, leaving him in the shape of a small dragon. "Cool, huh?" he says, transforming back. "It has no malevolent properties if it's being held by a spellcaster, so you're safe for now."

"Djinn is singular for Djinni, which is the quote-unquote 'garden variety genie'. Watch Disney's 'Aladdin' for an example - although they usually aren't blue." Machaeus grins at this, as though he made a joke. You hear him mutter, "'I must've hit my head harder than I thought.' Hehehe."

Gene opens the door and pops his head in.
GENE: "Actually, she's more correct than you are. In Islamic theology, most djinni are free spirits, wielding supernatural power and capable of good or evil -- not unlike the demons I warned you about earlier. A very few can be bound to objects and pressed into service, but even then you have to be careful. You ever hear of The Monkey's Paw?"
He chuckles.
GENE: "For a man who claims to have studied this crap, you really need to do your homework. I took, like, uno course in religion back in college and I'm kicking your butt."
Mack grabs his dagger.
GENE: "Okay, bye!"
Gene pops back out and closes the door.

"I never said I studied it, you jackhole! Do I look like a freakin' sage to you?!" "Cool! Now all I need are five more swords and I could take on Jenny in Shiva-Sword mode!" Machaeus slaps his forehead, slowly turns, and peeks at Urufu. He now has six arms, each one fully functional. "For the love of - Urufu, stop messing with my potion ingredients! Just write down what you used, and I'll copy it, but NEVER USE RANDOM STUFF IF YOU'RE NOT A SKILLED POTION-MAKER!" "Which hand should I write with?" the werewolf grins. He promptly recieves a thick book to the skull, resulting in a resounding CRASH! "Man, is that thing metal?" "All the pages and the cover inside the leather casing, yes. It's much more resistant to magic mishaps than paper."

Gene responds from outside -- the sound carries through the door. "I never said I studied it, you jackhole! Do I look like a freakin' sage to you?!" GENE: "Well, that is how you portrayed yourself when you were belittling my understanding of the supernatural. Unless, of course, your dogmatic certainty merely stems from you being an arrogant prick... which possibility I'm entirely open to." GENE: "Hey, sounds like you got a real mess in there. You wondered why I told you to keep the sorcery to yourself? Well, that's why. Should I forgo the saying of 'See, I told you so'?"

"THANK you. And yes, I'm an arrogant prick, and Urufu was messing with stuff I told him not to. That's really not my fault, unless you suggest I put child-proof locks on all my component cabinets. He'd just break through them anyways."

"THANK you. And yes, I'm an arrogant prick,... GENE: (to himself) "Well, at least he's an honest prick." GENE: "Naw, man. Not childproofing. I'm talking security. Chains... deadbolts... razor wire. A sign that says, 'trespassers will be stabbed; survivors will be stabbed again.' I mean, sure, he could get through all that too, but I think he'd at least get the hint before that happens." He shrugs. GENE: "Of course, it's a bit late for that now. So I'll leave you to contend with the curious little werewolf. I've got places to go and grody magic to stay away from." He walks away from the door.

Machaeus mumbles, "If he thinks my MAGIC is grody, he's never faced down a otyugh. Those things are walking disease-carts...there's a reason the sickness they carry is called filth fever."
