Gene has thus far hung back, while the others got in their blows. "Oh, for the love of everything," he finally says, "you crush him flat, rip open his chest, cut off his friggin' head, and still he refuses to give up! What does it take?" He grabs a human-sized chunk of debris and charges Hawk, holding the concrete boulder in front of him as a shield. When he gets close to the robot, he lifts the block up and brings it down on Hawk's head several times. "Why... won't... you... die... you... stupid... metal... son-of-a..."
As he pulls the massive brick up once more, he notices that the irreg's head has been smashed into several pieces. Hawk's body flails for a moment, then falls over, lifeless.
"... oh." Gene shrugs. "Okay."

"Guess it just took that last little bit," Urufu shrugs. "You okay, Mach?" "I'm...alive," he gasps. He transfers most of his wounds to Urufu, who heals them quickly. "Nice job, Gene. You beat one of the Giga Irregs."

Gene smirks. "I don't know if you're trying to be modest or sarcastic. But either way, I'll thank you to stop. I mean, you guys did most of the damage. By the time I got a shot off on him, it was practically a mercy killing. Not to say that my contribution wasn't important, but... actually, I guess that is what I'm saying. On the whole, though, that's probably a good thing. Vikel said there were four Gigas, right? And if video games have taught me anything, the other three are gonna be a lot tougher than this guy, simply because we'll be fighting them later. So... the longer we can put off fighting at full power, the longer we can put off having to fight at more than full power, which would be hard to impossible and forebode our defeat. In other words, here's to hoping I can sit on my butt for the next three bosses."

"As a wise man once said, 'Striking first is good. Striking hard is great. But striking last is what truly counts'," Urufu says. "But it would be nice if you participated a little more."

Speaking of not participating, Machaeus thought as he transferred his wounds to Urufu. "Alright, we're on our way back." The mage had to help the werewolf back as Urufu recuperated - the blast was particularly harrowing.
