( Shotgun!Three cheers for time-zones.YAY! ) Ash falls into the right seat of the thingypit and stretches, followed by a big yawn. "God,I think I´m getting a headache. If everyones aboard, let her rip." After a few seconds,he started to snort.

"SHOTGUN!" Urufu shouts, leaping forwards. Machaeus grabs his shirt collar with a ghostly hand. "No," he says calmly. "I have to be there for an accurate portal creation. It's hard enough not being right there to grab the space-time fabric."

"I'm ready to go," Jessie answers. "Yeah, me too. Let's go!" Jackie replies.

"Righty ho, off we go then." said the A.I. The engines changed from a high pitched whine to a low, steady rumble as the small shuttle shot upwards into the sky. Within a minute it had broken out of the Earth's atmosphere and was crusing along in low orbit. "Get ready for a bit o' a ride then," said the A.I. "I'm going to sling shot us around the planet to get us a bit o' speed." The ship alligned itself so the Earth was a massive blue disk above their heads, before boosting the engines to full power. Though the inertial dampeners reduced the physical sensation of acceleration it was still noticiable as the shot around the globe once before pulling sharply back out. Ahead of them now was an expanse of stars clearer than any night sky on Earth could ever show. The A.I. smiled and nodded his head. "Now isn't that a lovely sight, eh? Cor, haven't seen nothing like this for ages." he pulled a face as if suddenly remembering something. "Oh, I 'aven't introduced meself 'ave I? I'm Nebula Systems ANAP-C.1991 ver.1.8, but everyone just calls me Gordon."

"Lovely indeed, but we haven't time for stargazing - we've got a business run of sorts to make," Machaeus says. He concentrates and opens the portal, allowing the ship to fly straight through it. "Welcome to another set of stars, almost instantly," he grins at Gordon, panting slightly.

Jackie's eyes were the size of oranges. "WHOA!" "Heh, that was cool! Almost like a roller coaster!"

"Phwoar, what a ride. Take me a second to get me sensors all adjusted," on the screen Gordon's squinted and blinked rapidly a few times, "there, thats better. Now, have a butcher's at this." The small ship turned, bringing into view the distant form of a long, cylindrical space station slowly rotating. Even from the distance they were at it still seemed huge, and got steadiliy bigger as they drew near.

"Immense," is all that Machaeus says. "Only space and the Infinite Abyss are bigger. I never thought I'd see man make something like this - even if it isn't made by humans per se."

"Thats the mystery about her," Gordon shruged, well, as much as a disembodied head on a screen can shrug, "nobody knows who built her, or why. There's nothing much 'ere in the Epsilon Eridani system. Pair o' gas giants with a couple of moons, asteroid field, sun's pretty average too. Nothin' of material value, nothing even really pretty to look at. It's just 'ere for some reson. She's no the biggest thing ever built though, as space staions go anyways; New Eden's only 8km long. Some worlds have space staions that are giant rings linked to the surface with big elevators. In my experience..." Gordon, once again begins to ramble.

"Huh. They've built bigger?" Machaeus says. "That's...impressive. Innovation sure is a powerful tool of the thinking races." Urufu stares at the station. "So Xacio's in there somewhere, right?" "Supposedly."

Now a multitude of small, moving lights could be seen around the station; the various ships comming and going. "What? Oh, yeah there much bigger stations than this out there." said Gordon, Snapped out of his rambling by Machaeus' question, "Don't suppose you've ever left y'world before today eh? Cor, the wonders of the universe... the Tau Ceti system, now there's an impressive place. The main planets' an ecumenopolis y'know. "So why do y'want to come to this place? Why's this Xacio chap so important?" (we should probably just spend some time randomly chatting and that because with Ash on his holiday we cant do much untill he gets back. the offical explanation i putting is that they're in the docking queue behind other spacecraft.)

"Please wait while we document your ship," the intercom says. It's a feminine voice. "Thanks," Machaeus says through the intercom. "This 'Xacio chap' is important because Ash here wants to kick his @$$. He's done some damage to his ego."

"No 'alf?" said Gordon in his accent, he nodded to the dozing Ash, "With all that getup on he looks like he eats tanks for breakky... Cor, sure 'ope he isn't drooling inside that thing, y'know I mean I hope he's rust proofed the thing 'cause-" the beginning of another ramble was cut short as the ship rocked under a laser barrage. Two ships engaged in a vicious dogfight zoomed past the front viewport and continiued to weave in and out of the other spacecraft in the queue. The lead one throttled back suddenly, an attempt to let the one tailing it overtake so it could be fired upon. But the rear one instead cut its engines and performed a Shelton slide manouver, riding its inertia along its original heading but orientaing itself so the other ship remained in it's gunsights. The lead ship tried to power up but it was too late. A small bloom of fire and debris flared breifly in the distance. The victor circled once to confirm the kill before warping out. A swarm of small robots and retreival pods began to move in on the debris cloud to search for anything of value that may have survived the fight. "Thats the way it is out 'ere," said Gordon, "kill or be killed. Take what y'can, to the victor go the spoils an' all that. Hasn't changed in all the years I've been around an' I don't expect it will ev-" Gordon was cut off again as a warbling, static voice eminated over the intercom. "Attention vessel, we are Control. Your first time visting us it is...Yes... We know of all that transpires within us...You will query us...Yes...?" "Thats Control," explained Gordon, "New Eden's computer core. If y'got any questions about the place y'should ask it."

"Should we ask you anything at all, including questions about inhabitants or possible inhabitants?" Urufu asks. "Wow, you have some subtlety in you?" Machaeus asks. "Hush, you'll break my concentration." "Figures."

" You query us about those who live within us?...We will comply...Yes... Current population at time 18:21:19 orbital period .808 standard is exactly 8,209,116 sentients of which 8,208,487 are permanent residents of 5,021 different species... Further query you have...Yes?"
